Wexford Opera House, ''Une éducation manquée''

Wexford (Ireland)

The grey BGO - Gobelin tulle backdrop was painted by Rinaldo Rinaldi.«In a situation of pre-show, during the entry in the theatrical hall the public can already glimpse the scenography thanks to the semi-transparency of a curtain made of tulle on which it will be painted the architecture made iron of the Crystal Palace of Victorian taste. This image-quotation will be perceivable thanks to a lighting project that will underline its character of

«The lifting of the tulle will discover to the public an architectural half-cylindrical structure with an ellipsoidal section with pillars and coupled capitals and trees with skeletal leafy branches. The structure will lean on the practicable platform that will constitute the base of the floor of the scene, that will have a coverage made of wide wooden boards with reproduced a motive (not too much evident) of parquet with a very bland visual effect and whitened in its texture.» Ibidem.
A detail that allows to understand as the architecture inspired to the Crystal Palace has been painted on the tulle backdrop.«The half-cylindrical structure will be connected to the engines of the flyloft that, according to a precise indication by the stage direction, will lift the structure to different heights and the consequent evocative and visionary dramaturgical use. The structure, that will have a height of around six meters, will have a scenographical treatment with a grey materic painting and the same chromatic tonality will also be used for the trees, with addition of a metallic-silvered effect with shadings for the skeletal leafy branches.»Ibidem.
A closer view of the structure half-cylindrical structure with pillars and pilasters that is shown in a full evidence by the lifting of the curtain made of painted tulle. To the epoch of the first night of Une éducation manquée Chabrier still worked full time in the Ministère de the Intérieur of Paris, where he had begun in 1862 after having completed his law studies. The success of this opera, that after the death of Chabrier would have received the admiration of some among the greatest musicians of a pair of following generations, such as Poulenc, Milhaud and Stravinskij, probably contributed to convince him to devote completely to the musical career, abandoning that in the public administration.
«The lifting of the half-cylindrical structure will reveal, a bit at a time, a central island constituted by a sort of matrimonial alcove of elegant '800 style, constituted by a bed complete with sheets, draped blankets, pillows. The bed will have the headboard covered with capitonné fabric and will have a whitened greyish colour with an almost monochrome effect. It will be completed by a canopy composed by four stylized trees with branches and leaves that will interlace in the center and will have the same chromatic tonality of the bed with some metallic-silvered reflexes.» Ibidem.
The backdrop, that one can glimpse here between the structure and the central island of the bed, has been realized with ASL600S - Light Sceno 600 cm sheer muslin and was painted with the architectural motives inspired to Boullée by Rinaldo Rinaldi.«On the background of the scene it is foreseen, to close, a backdrop made of painted cloth with a neoclassic architectural motive that reproduces the inside of a dome with a lacunar ceiling that quotes the style of the utopian architect Étienne-Louis Boullée. The backdrop is installed like a ciclorama with a curved bar lowered by the flyloft and fixed to the floor with tension.»Ibidem.
The pier glass has been realized using three plates of QSF - Miroflex.«It will be positioned, tilted toward the bed, a big mirror made with a rocaille-French style with aged-oxidized mirror and a frame made of worked and shaped wood, with aged color of the same chromatic tonality of the bed.All will be wound, in the rear-part, by two great cloths made of HLU - Lucilla fabric (denomination by Peroni's catalog) iridescent or silver (to verify the more appropriate type with a sample), that will be fixed, in two overlapped corners, to some curved bars that will be lowered by the flyloft. The two big cloths will be manufactured then with a drapery
«Above the bed, hooked to the Flyloft, a fully operational chandelier will hang, type '800 century and made of crystals, and it will be lifted afterwards (according to a precise signal of the stage direction and of the music) and replaced with a syncronic movement, by the descent of a big root of a tree painted with a tonality similar to the rest of the elements that compose the scenography.» Ibidem.
