Teatro Lirico, ''Carmen''

Cagliari

The scene of the airplane brings to the mind somehow Casablanca's Bogartian atmospheres, contemporary to the Spain of Francisco Franco in the years 1940s, in which Stephen Medcalf choose to transpose the action of this Carmen. The image underlines the Stage masking of the Teatro Lirico, made of black FOT - Otello velvet and the black TMP - Perotapis used to frame the landing strip.

The unusual temporal choice of Medcalf dipped Bizet's opera in a contemporaneity difficult to explain if not with the climate of war recalled by the terrorist attacks that, in new millennium, are repeatedly srtriking Europe.
The backdrop made of painted BGO - Gobelin tulle with which the scenographer Jamie Vartan veiled the whole stage.

Several backdrops made of strong ANM - Nomentana canvas ...
... covered by painted foam-rubber with masonry effect ...
... with which were realized the walls used in some scenes of the opera.
