The sketch of another scene in which the deck of the ship is clear of the sails.Marco Capuana planned to install a large and slightly inclined Ghiaccio transparent backdrop between the deck of the sailing ship and the painted BIT - Italiano tulle backdrop.
The actual realization of the scene.The inclined Ghiaccio transparent backdrop partially reflects the action that takes place on the deck, while the backlighting with red light of the RAR - Arizona Rear-projection screen sends the backdrop made of BIT - Italiano tulle against the light and it becomes transparent.In a later scene the intensity of the RAR - Arizona screen backlight is reduced …
... and its colour changes from red to white.The backdrop made of BIT - Italiano tulle is frontally illuminated and its painted subject can be glimpsed through the transparency of the Ghiaccio transparent backdrop.A second set of sails made of red HSV - Trevi fabric was lowered onto the deck.
