The Teatro Sociale di Canzo has a semicircular hall that, distributed between the stalls and a balcony, which can accommodate 126 spectators.
For centuries, Canzo was a favorite holiday destination for various noble Milanese families, to whom we owe the construction of the theatre and the attention paid to its construction, unusual for a small provincial theatre.
1828
The noble families of Canzo, both residents and vacationers, form a company to finance the theater's construction.
Gaetano Besia is commissioned for the project, while Alessandro Sanquirico, set designer of the Teatro alla Scala, paints the historic curtain.
1829
The theater is inaugurated with a performance staged by the company of the Teatro dei Filodrammatici of Milan.
1930s
The theater is converted into a cinema.
1980s
The cinema is closed.
1985
First restoration work on the building.
1990
The theater is reopened.
2003
Restoration of the stagecraft with reworking of the Traveller curtain and the Stage masking.
