The main hall of the Opera House of Cairo can accommodate 1,200 spectators in the stalls and in four balconies.
It is used for operas, orchestral concerts and ballet performances.

The Royal Opera House is inaugurated, built to celebrate the opening of the Suez Canal and designed by Piero Avoscani and Mario Rossi.
In 1871, the world premiere of Aida is performed there.
1971
A fire completely destroys the building.
1983
Following Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak's visit to Japan, this latter donates Egypt the funds needed for the construction of a new theater.
1985
Construction begins, designed by the Japanese architectural firm Nikken Sekkei.
