The Ceilings are scenic elements installed horizontally or with varying degrees of inclination, suspended at a certain height by means of their own structure or supported by other structures.
They can be:
- built, made of framed fabric or of fabric only;
- opaque to light, translucent, transparent, reflective;
- equipped with oculi or other openings;
- decorated, painted, printed and draped.
The use of fabric in their construction allows them to be lightened.
Their shape can be:
- plane, such as polygonal, round, oval, ellipsoidal, shaped;
- three-dimensional, for example conical or pyramidal.
Theatrical scenography uses them for the ceilings of Closed sets and, less frequently, as independent scenic elements.
Exhibition and commercial installations use them for decorative and functional purposes, i.e. for acoustics or to filter or darken the light.
