The electric lighting system is activated.

The stage machinery is renovated.

The bombings inflict severe damage to the theater building.

After the reconstruction work is completed, the theater reopens.
2002
Closing for radical restoration and modernization work involving the entire theater building.
Mario Botta's project adds the external volumes of the stage tower and the elliptical tower.
The stage machinery is completely redesigned by Franco Malgrande.
2004
The theater reopens with the same opera as its inauguration in 1778: Teatro alla Scala, ''Europa riconosciuta''.
